1. Model in wax
The maker shapes a wax model with the design's form and surface details. For a hollow casting, this can surround a clay core.
2. Mould and cast
A mould is formed around the wax. Heating removes the wax, leaving a space into which molten metal is poured.
3. Reveal and finish
After cooling, the mould is removed to reveal the casting. Cleaning and finishing bring out its form and detail.
